A blog post from the Coast to Capital Chief Executive, Jonathan Sharrock

Looking back on my time so far at Coast to Capital, I am extremely proud to lead an organisation where people are so expert, passionate and fully engaged on making our region a place where everybody can achieve their ambitions. I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on the significant work we have done in the last 12 months.

This year, our Chair of six years, Tim Wates stepped down. The Board and I are incredibly grateful for the support, guidance and expertise provided over the course of his tenure. Our new Chair, Julie Kapsalis was confirmed at our Annual General Meeting, where we launched our plans to build back stronger, smarter and greener and announced the Skills Strategy and Action Plan. Julie is committed to building on our strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in everything that we do.

In response to the monumental challenge faced by businesses across the area, we doubled the size of our support team in the spring who have since triaged over 2,500 support enquiries. This was supported by a combined £4 million distributed via our ‘Backing Business Grants’ and ‘Business Recovery Grants

Some additional highlights from the year include:

Looking ahead to 2021, I look forward to working with colleagues and partners to achieve our shared vision making a difference to people and places and ensuring that our region is a fantastic place to live, grow and succeed.
