£820,000 Local Growth Funding has been approved by Coast to Capital for Phase 3 of the Crawley Growth Programme, in addition to a previous allocation of £14.6 million, to help progress the project.

The Crawley Growth Programme is transforming the business and living environment in Crawley town centre and Manor Royal, through the delivery of new office space, enabling new homes and new retail investment alongside transport infrastructure. This aligns with Coast to Capital's strategic priority to Deliver Prosperous Urban Centres.

Phase 3 of the programme will improve transport connectivity by extending a proposed bus lane around Manor Royal Business District, leading to a reduction in bus journey times. Enhancements along the cycling and walking route will also encourage more sustainable transport options. This will enrich the attractiveness of Manor Royal Business District and significantly reduce the carbon emissions of commuters.

Once complete in December 2020, the scheme will unlock opportunities for the local area including further investment in housing and business space.

The Programme is subject to final checks and due diligence.

Jonathan Sharrock, Chief Executive at Coast to Capital said:

"Crawley helps establish the West Sussex area as a thriving economic hub. Close links to Gatwick airport place Crawley at the beating heart of Coast to Capital and we are delighted to award further Local Growth Funding towards the Crawley Growth Programme, bringing our total contribution up to £15.4 million. "

Minister for Local Growth, Rt Hon Jake Berry MP, said:

"We are committed to boosting economic growth across the whole of the UK and levelling up every community so that they have the support and investment they need to grow and flourish."

"The progress of the Crawley Growth Programme, backed by £820,000 from the Local Growth Fund, is impressive and will help unlock the economic potential of the area, improve local transport and protect the environment."

Bob Lanzer, county council Cabinet Member for the Economy, said:

"The county council is delighted to continue working on this exciting programme for the Crawley area, which will generate significant growth in the local economy, creating new jobs and homes."

"This 3rd phase of the programme will see transport infrastructure improvements, planned to boost overall capacity and encourage the use of sustainable transport methods. We look forward to turning the designs into a reality."

Steve Sawyer, Executive Director at Manor Royal BID said:

"Our success as a business destination is intrinsically linked to having access to an efficient, easy and reliable transport system. This additional investment will contribute to plans to encourage more active, sustainable travel into and around Manor Royal and closely aligns to our shared aspirations for the area."

Continuing this, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development at Crawley Borough Council, Councillor Peter Smith, said:

"This phase 3 investment in Crawley, by the Coast to Capital LEP, is a vote of confidence in the success of the Crawley Growth Programme and will enable us to deliver further projects for the benefit of our Town, its residents and businesses."
