Coast to Capital is seeking the views of residents and business leaders across Surrey on proposed local transport projects.

Coast to Capital administrates central Government funding for improvements to the local transport networks in the region and a consultation process has begun on a range of transport schemes in conjunction with local authority partners.

The schemes include proposals to improve road junctions, encourage more walking and cycling, reduce congestion and help to prevent road closures caused by flooding. In total, these schemes would mean an investment of more than £44.7 million to improve transport networks across the Coast to Capital region.

In Surrey, this includes:

-Proposed resilience schemes costing nearly £15 million to improve the A22, A23, A24 and A217 so they are better able to cope in poor weather conditions, especially flooding.

-A £3 million investment on an East Surrey -wide traffic management scheme which would improve traffic flow, reducing journey times and congestion.

-A package of transport improvements in Epsom town centre. Costing £2.7 million, this scheme would reduce the impact of traffic congestion by: reverting part of the existing one way system to two way movement; widening footpaths; improving crossings and enhancing the existing cycle network. This scheme has been approved in principle, with funding allocated. It is now subject to a value-for-money assessment.

-Dorking could also potentially benefit from a £600,000 sustainable transport package to improve the town's Dorking Deepdene railway station.

Local businesses and residents have until 3 March 2015 to share their views on these schemes by contacting Transport Adviser at Coast to Capital +44(0)1403 333840.

Commenting on the consultation, Ron Crank, chief executive of Coast to Capital said: "Having worked closely and collaboratively with local councils and stakeholders, we are now asking local people for their views on specific improvements to transport schemes in their areas. Together, we are confident these schemes will comprise a transport strategy for the region that will support our region's economic growth."
