Coast to Capital has granted final approval to the funding of two multi-million pound transport schemes in West Sussex.

Coast to Capital LEP has granted final approval to the funding of two multi-million pound transport schemes in West Sussex which will help towards creating thousands of new jobs, homes and employment spaces.

The LEP's Local Transport Body recently gave the thumbs up to the businesses cases for the A284 and A259 in proposals which will help to reduce congestion and accidents.

Coast to Capital will be contributing over £10 million to the schemes which will support the delivery of the Arun Local Plan.

  • A284 Lyminster By-Pass is a 1.8km realignment of the A284 to the north of Littlehampton
  • Seeks to deliver 4,695 jobs, 2,600 homes and 27,370 sqm net employment space
  • A259 improvements along a 5.1 km section of the road between the proposed A259/284 junction in the west and the A259/A280 roundabout in the east
  • The scheme involves widening sections of the dual carriageway. It also includes pedestrian and cycling improvements.

Martin Heffer, Coast to Coast Board Member for infrastructure, said: "This is great news for people and businesses who use these stretches of roads in West Sussex. It will help make the roads less congested and reduce queuing times considerably during peak hours. The schemes will also support the delivery of the Arun Local Plan to create thousands of new homes, jobs and employment space in the region."

Cllr Pieter Montyn, Local Transport Body Chairman, added: "Good transport links are vital and improving access to these road will inevitably support wider regeneration of the area."
