The Institute of Directors (IoD) has named Coast to Capital Chair Julie Kapsalis as the recipient of the Equality and Diversity award, as part of its prestigious Director of the Year (London, South and South West) awards 2021.

The awards celebrate leadership talent and success among Directors ranging from young entrepreneurs to experienced Chief Executives, with finalists representing the spectrum of business and industry across the regions.

Judges were looking for examples of projects already in place to promote diversity and inclusion which results in a positive impact on organisational culture and new initiatives.

This year, Coast to Capital pledged to recognise the impact of privilege, removing barriers and ensuring opportunities are open to all - recognising that everyone has the right to live a life free from discrimination.

As part of this commitment, Coast to Capital piloted a trailblazing initiative using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support women entrepreneurs power-up the economy and make businesses and society more inclusive than ever. Created by business intelligence firm mnAI, the Insight technology provides analysis on business sectors and companies by gender enabling Local Enterprise Partnerships to target work programmes and funding towards women.

Coast to Capital Chair, Julie Kapsalis, said:

“I am delighted to have been awarded Director of the Year award for Equality and Diversity, which would not have been possible without the dedication of the team at Coast to Capital. This is a huge opportunity for us as LEPs to show national leadership in diversity.”
