Coast to Capital has broadly welcomed the Chancellor's 2015 budget.

Reacting to the Budget Statement, Ron Crank, chief executive, was pleased to hear the government's ongoing support for enterprise in what has been described as a responsible budget with a package of reforms to boost UK productivity and to create the right conditions for balanced growth.

Coast to Capital has welcomed the announcement of further investment in skills and business - in particular an additional £40 million in research into what is known as the Internet of Things, which will resonate with the newly opened Digital Catapult Centre in Brighton.

It has also welcomed plans to support long-term investment in the UK's digital communications infrastructure, by investing up to £600 million to deliver improved mobile networks and a new ambition that ultrafast broadband of at least 100 megabits per second should become available to nearly all UK premises.

Speaking shortly after the budget, Ron Crank said: "It was good to hear that government is supporting the delivery of ultrafast broadband in rural areas - something I'm sure will be particularly welcome to those businesses located in the Coast to Capital region. We are also pleased that government has once again acknowledged the growing importance of the creative, IT and digital industries, which are significant sectors in our region."
