Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership is delighted to announce that a total of nine social inclusion project bids worth up to £4.8 million have been approved to go forward to full application stage.

These will be funded jointly through the European Social Fund (ESF) and by the Big Lottery Fund.

John Peel, Coast to Capital Board Member and Chair of the LEP Area European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF) Committee, said: "Although Coast to Capital is in many ways a successful and prosperous region, there are areas of deprivation and significant numbers of people who are facing multiple barriers to employment. ESF funding supports individuals in accessing skills and up-skilling, therefore helping businesses recruit and retain a better qualified and suited workforce to help them grow.

"We look forward to the successful delivery of these projects which include help for young people and family-focused provision as well as help for the long-term unemployed and for those with housing related issues. We strongly believe that the best projects are often delivered by organisations which are closest to the communities they serve and so we are giving priority to community-based organisations, for example social enterprises, to deliver these projects."

The final decision of whether the bids are successful will be made in the New Year.
