Summary of Project

The River Adur is a 32 mile long waterway that was used as a trade route since Roman times, starting from Shoreham and travelling as far as Steyning. Nowadays the river is still used for cargo transport as well as supporting wildlife and tourism due to it flowing through areas of outstanding natural beauty.

When extreme weather has hit the southern coast, the River Adur rises to levels that have caused damage to properties, businesses and infrastructure. Important construction works are now almost complete, to future proof Shoreham with a scheme that covers 7.2km of river bank . These works will protect Shoreham harbour and airport and unlock the area for housing developments and employment space.

The Local Growth Fund has contributed to site investigation, design and construction.
