A leading light in the local education sector is the latest appointment to the Board of Coast to Capital, the local enterprise partnership for Brighton and Hove, Lewes, London Borough of Croydon, the Gatwick Diamond and West Sussex.
Shelagh Legrave is the Principal and Chief Executive of Chichester College, a Further Education college with a vision to 'change lives through learning'. Prior to working at Chichester College, Shelagh spent five years as Director of Finance at the University of Roehampton, London.
She came to the education sector having spent eleven and a half years in the city of London with the investment banking arm of NatWest, where her last position was as Deputy Chief Financial Officer to the global financial markets division.
Mrs Legrave said: "I am looking forward to working with Coast to Coast LEP to develop and implement its Strategic Economic Plan for the area. In particular, I will be helping to shape the Skills Strategy. A skilled workforce is critical to driving economic growth and there is a rising demand for higher level and specialist skills, and a need to improve the employability of those who have yet to enter the labour market."
Following a BA in History and Theology at Durham University, Shelagh spent six years as an officer in the Women's Royal Army Corps. She is a qualified accountant and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and she chairs the Trustees of Stonepillow, a charity helping the homeless. Shelagh also serves on the Boards of the Chichester Festival Theatre, Bourne Community College and the Betty Martin Charity.
Coast to Capital Chairman, John Peel OBE, leads the board in shaping and driving the LEP's strategies. He said: "We are delighted to welcome Shelagh onto the Coast to Capital board. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the areas of education, skills and finance. We look forward to working with her as we develop and implement our growth strategy."
