Firms from the area may now apply for funding to help them grow from the new Coast to Capital Business Growth Grant programme.

The Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership has secured £3m from the Government's Regional Growth Fund to get the economy moving and create new jobs. As well as helping to boost the economy, the money will boost the green technology sector locally.

Ron Crank, chief executive says: "We are inviting applications from innovative SMEs that are looking to expand and create new jobs. The new programme will provide funding directly to high growth, high innovation businesses who have developed new ideas, products, services and intellectual property to the point where they are ready to exploit market opportunities, and importantly, create new jobs."

Grants of between £5,000 and £100,000 will be available to eligible businesses and those of a higher value will be considered where a greater impact on employment growth can be shown. The money may be spent on a wide range of eligible items including R&D projects, skills development, business premises and other capital items.

The Brighton Argus, West Sussex County Council, Brighton and Hove City Council, London Borough of Croydon, the Universities of Brighton, Sussex and Chichester and Wired Sussex are all joining forces with Coast to Capital to encourage firms to go for growth and bid for a share of this pot of cash.

The Regional Growth Fund is a £3.2 billion fund designed to help companies in England to grow. So far £2.6 billion of funding has been allocated to support projects and programmes committed to deliver sustainable jobs and economic growth. Round 5 opened on 11 October and closes on 9 December 2013.
