Coast to Capital LEP has granted final approval to the funding of a flood resilience scheme along the A217 in Surrey.

The LEP's Local Transport Body recently gave the thumbs up to the businesses case for the proposals which comprises drainage capacity improvements and resurfacing repairs.

Coast to Capital will be contributing £2.74 million to the scheme which covers Belmont roundabout, junction 8 of the M25 and sections of the road between Reigate and Horley.

Martin Heffer, Coast to Coast Board Member for infrastructure, said: "The A217 is a key strategic route which runs from the M25 to Reigate, Horley and Gatwick Airport. These improvements will give long term benefits, prolong the life of the carriageway and increase resistance to flood damage in the future."

Cllr Pieter Montyn, Local Transport Body Chairman, added: "Any scheme which prevents flooding should act as a catalyst for economic growth as it instils businesses and residents with more confidence about the area."
