Coast to Capital LEP has set up a new Task Force to look at a range of opportunities to increase the delivery of housing and regeneration in the area.

The Task Force, which is made up of private and public experts, recently held its first meeting, and will set out recommendations to the Coast to Capital Board in a report later this year.

Jonathan Sharrock, Chief Executive of Coast to Capital, said: "We know there is a lack of sufficient and affordable housing in our area, and it is important that we understand the demand for the future, looking at forecasts and market intelligence, so we can ensure that the right mix of homes are built.

"We need to respond to the housing and economic market characteristics of Coast to Capital and its sub-regions, to identify any market failures or blockages in the system and recommend ways to overcome these, particularly drawing on best practice from around the country.

"As a LEP we can't build houses or the infrastructure needed to support them, but what we can do is bring key players and influencers together and play a leadership role in maximising the opportunities that will improve the region. The Task Force will look at the issues from a business perspective on how to deliver more homes and identify practical ways of doing this; separate to the statutory role played by the local authorities in planning housing development in their area."

The Task Force has no statutory role, and will take a non-political approach in line with the LEP's business focus.

The members of the Task Force are:

• Alison Butler
• Terry Fuller
• Dennis Hone
• Jim McAllister
• Geeta Nanda
• Edward Owens
• Yvonne Rees
• Ian Tant
• Garry Wall
