Coast to Capital is delighted to announce that The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) have been appointed as their corporate charity for 2019.

The Marine Conservation Society is the UK's leading charity for the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife. Our seas are under threat - from pollution, overfishing and a lack of protection. We are taking too much out, for example fish and oil - often using intensive or destructive techniques. We are putting too much in - waste, pollution and damaging development. Globally, plastic litter has reached every part of the world's oceans, whether in its original form or in tiny broken down pieces called micro-plastics.The MCS Clean Seas programme has been a leader in reducing marine pollution over the last decade.

Investing in sustainable growth has been identified as a key priority for the Coast to Capital area in the strategic economic plan "Gatwick 360". Work will include being an active partner to Government in the development of the 25 Year Environment Plan and agreeing development standards for waste and water use and management, as well as developing green infrastructure policies.

Coast to Capital will help fundraise through a variety of activities including a beach clean-up and sponsored open water swimming.

Jonathan Sharrock, Chief Executive at Coast to Capital said:

"We are thrilled to have appointed The Marine Conservation Society as our corporate charity for 2019. We are committed to creating a sustainable economy by tackling a number of key strategic issues for our area as well as continuing to improve our operational processes to reduce waste and pollution. Charity is an important part of our work at Coast to Capital and we are looking forward to fundraising for a fantastic cause."

Katharine Sharp, Corporate Partnerships Manager at the Marine Conservation Society said:

"We are thrilled that Coast to Capital have chosen MCS as their charity of the year. We look forward to working with them on their fundraising activities which will be a huge help in supporting our work to achieve seas full of life."
