A substantial Local Growth Fund investment of £14.64 million has been confirmed by Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Company for a significant regeneration programme in Crawley. The Growth Programme includes an investment package of infrastructure improvements and physical regeneration designed to support significant increases in new homes, business investment and employment growth. With further match funding provided by West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council the total costs of the scheme will be £31.412 million.

Sustainable transport infrastructure and highway upgrades are planned to boost overall transport capacity and enable a significant shift from car usage to bus, rail, cycling and walking alternatives. In addition, connectivity enhancements at the major railway station of Crawley, Three Bridges and Gatwick will greatly facilitate commuter access to Manor Royal and the town centre via sustainable transport connections.

Crawley town centre and Manor Royal will be transformed to upgrade the quality of both the living and business environment to attract higher quality new jobs and homes. It will also be a catalyst for significant new Grade A commercial office space in the town centre's 'Eastern Gateway' and for a new business and jobs growth hub. The whole programme will provide 7,000 new jobs, 135,000 square metres of refurbished floor space and 1,000 new homes.

Local Growth Fund investment is subject to approval of the final funding agreement.

Coast to Capital Chief Executive Jonathan Sharrock said:

"We are delighted to be able to confirm funding for this Growth Programme which will unlock significant numbers of additional new homes, jobs and commercial floor space to secure Crawley's sustainable economic growth. Investment in key local infrastructure is vital in maximising the potential of Crawley and Manor Royal. The strategic importance of Crawley to our region provides a strong case for investment on this scale and we are excited about the future development and growth in the town."

Councillor Peter Lamb, Leader of Crawley Borough Council, said:

"Crawley Borough Council is committed to doing all we can to improve the lives of our residents, ensuring Crawley remains a great place to live, work and play. By working with our partners at Coast to Capital and West Sussex we can deliver together the homes and better jobs local residents need."

Louise Goldsmith, Leader of West Sussex County Council, said:

"This is an exciting time for Crawley. This programme will generate significant growth in the local economy, create new jobs and boost productivity. As well as improvements to transport links, the town centre and the Manor Royal environment, it will also unlock investment opportunities which will truly allow the area to prosper.

"We have worked closely with Crawley Borough Council since we signed our District Deal at the end of last year, culminating in this bid to the LEP. I am delighted to be working with all of our partners on this important project and the scale of this shows what can be achieved when organisations work together to deliver projects and services for the people of Crawley - and West Sussex as a whole - in the best and most efficient way possible."
