The Coast to Capital Brighton Mainline Alliance has responded positively to a Network Rail consultation on the Croydon Bottleneck. The Alliance is campaigning for investment in the railway network and has welcomed the opportunity to give feedback on what will be a crucial development along the Brighton Mainline.

The Croydon area is by far the busiest and most congested part of Britain's rail network, with 30% more passengers and trains passing through it each day than London Euston and King's Cross stations combined. If approved, the scheme would see additional tracks constructed in the Croydon area, extra platforms at an expanded and modernised East Croydon station and a series of new railway flyovers to replace the current 'spaghetti junction'. The Alliance has strongly agreed with the plans, recognising the economic benefits not just for Croydon but for the wider Coast to Capital area.

By joining the Alliance you are adding your weight to our strong collective voice calling for the vital investment required to drive growth and productivity across the whole region, protect our economic potential and support the growth ambitions of our businesses. If your business or organisation wants to demonstrate support please send your logo to jake.daniels@coast2capital.org.uk.

Katie Nurcombe, Head of Communications & Corporate Affairs said:

"Promoting better transport mobility is featured as an economic priority in our Strategic Economic Plan Gatwick 360. The Brighton Mainline Alliance has already helped raise awareness of a number of improvements projects along the local railway line and we are delighted to have the opportunity to give feedback on a crucial development that if realised will support the future economic prosperity of the area."

John Halsall, Network Rail managing director, South East route, Network Rail, said:

"Removing the railway bottleneck at Croydon is the only practical way to deliver a step-change in reliability and capacity for the 300,000 passengers and thousands of businesses from across the region that rely on a reliable, well performing railway.

"We look forward to working with the Brighton Mainline Alliance and other stakeholders from across the region in the months and years again to make our proposals a reality."
