The University of Chichester has appointed Professor Jane Longmore as Vice-Chancellor: she will take up her post from Tuesday 2 May, 2017.

Professor Longmore is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Southampton Solent University where she has responsibility for learning, teaching, research and innovation.

 

She is a Director of the University Vocational Awards Council and the UK College of Business and Computing.

 

Most recently Professor Longmore was a member of the Expert Group advising on the development of the Teaching Excellence Framework and also co-convenes the HE Employer Apprenticeship trailblazer: a national consortium of over 70 higher education institutions and related organisations.

 

Announcing the appointment University Chair of Governors Professor Jim Lynch OBE said: "I am delighted that Professor Jane Longmore will become the next Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chichester following selection from a strong field of candidates.

"Jane has the qualities, skills and experience needed to lead the University on its exciting upwards trajectory.

 

"Jane will build upon the University's strengths of research-led teaching quality, student experience and student engagement.

 

"Drawing upon these strengths and the University's heritage and values, she will work with our community to promote the University on the national and global stage."

 

Professor Jane Longmore thanked the Chair and the Board for the opportunity to build on the achievements of the current leadership, staff and students of the University.

 

She added: "I have great admiration for the values and culture of the University of Chichester and feel privileged to be asked to take up the role of Vice-Chancellor.

 

"This is an exciting and challenging time for the higher education sector but I am confident that we can work together to maintain an exceptional experience for our students and staff and make a significant contribution to our wider communities.

 

"It has never been more vital for universities to encourage informed reflection and critical engagement with contemporary global concerns - I look forward to leading the University in addressing this crucial responsibility."

 

Professor Longmore is a Professor of Urban History, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and an Honorary Fellow of the Historical Association. She co-chaired the most recent QAA Subject Benchmarking Group for History and is actively engaged with the Higher Education Academy.
