The regeneration of Queens Square has been completed - on time and on budget.

The improvements, which took 12 months to complete, has encouraged new businesses to open in the square and for existing retailers and property owners to improve the appearance of their buildings. The new square includes high quality paving, new and improved lighting, new seating, new street furniture, new planting and a fountain.

The £3.2m regeneration scheme, which has been designed to create a high quality, inviting, distinctive and enjoyable public space, is a joint project between Crawley Borough Council, West Sussex County Council and the Coast to Capital Local Economic Partnership.

Now, the council is working with West Sussex County Council on proposals to extend the high quality Queens Square regeneration work along connector streets Queensway, The Pavement and Kingsgate. Design objectives for the £2.2m scheme include a cohesive design with Queens Square; improved connectivity with Memorial Gardens and Queensway; flat, accessible and attractive; attractive lighting for safety and aesthetics; seating; cycle racks; more litter bins; disabled bays; and better vehicular access into Parkside Car Park.

The revamped Queens Square provides the town centre with a great events space and a free family fun day to mark the official reopening will take place on Saturday 7 October from 12 noon. Everyone's welcome at this family-friendly celebratory event, which will include professional singing, dancing, music from a concert band, street performers, face painting, balloon art and much more. Metrobus will be bringing its special 70th birthday bus along, Queens Square shops will be getting involved and we'll be switching on the fountains for the first time since work is completed too! Decathlon, which is celebrating its first birthday, is joining in the fun with sporting activities and giveaways in the square.
