This review of LEPs document sets out the roles and responsibilities of LEPs which includes a leadership role in relation to economic strategy, allocation of funds, partner co-ordination and local advocacy.
The report also confirms that every area will be expected to produce a Local Industrial Strategy and in preparation for this Coast to Capital has just launched its Strategic Economic Plan. Its strategy, 'Gatwick 360' sets out the scope for economic growth in an area which is hugely important for the national economy and has Gatwick Airport at its heart. It sets out eight priorities to grow the area's economy which include specific actions on urban centres, business infrastructure, sustainable growth, skills, innovation, digital networks, transport and identity.
The review of LEPs document also makes specific recommendations in relation to the leadership and accountability of LEPs. Coast to Capital is committed to building on its excellent position in relation to Governance to ensure that it continues to operate to the highest standards of accountability and transparency. It will also take advantage of the support announced by Government to enable its strong Board to work as effectively as possible. Coast to Capital's first priority will be to work with relevant partners to confirm its functioning economic area.
