Greater Brighton Bosses Map Out Digital Future

Greater Brighton bosses have spent two days setting out their vision of the area's future in a pitch to senior civil servants. Members of the Greater Brighton Economic Board hosted a two-day workshop at which they spoke about the huge challenges around housing and mapped out a digital future for business.

Whitehall officials were taken on a tour which included a trip up the i360, a visit to Brighton University's new Advanced Engineering Centre and to the "5G" testbed at New England House. The testbed is intended to give digital businesses, including those which build apps and content for smart phones and mobile phones, the chance to try out 5G conditions.

New Innovation Index shows Brighton has highly active data innovation community

A new UK Tech Innovation Index published today by the Open Data Institute and the Digital Catapult shows that:

- Brighton is the 4th most active data innovation community in the UK, and comes 5th across all technology sectors measured. This is despite Brighton having a relatively small population of under 340,000 compared to leading cities such as London and Manchester
- Brighton also ranks:
o 6th for Virtual Reality Innovation
o 8th for Health Innovation
o 10th for Artificial Intelligence Innovation

The UK Tech Innovation Index, published today by the Open Data Institute, which is celebrating its fifth birthday in 2017, and the Digital Catapult, shows the most active innovation communities in the UK by industry sector, captured in an online interactive map.
